Roy Andersen Photography, Banff PhotographersBorn in Kirkenes, Norway, and currently living in Banff, Alberta, Canada, Roy Andersen has been a commercial photographer for more then 20 years, focusing on the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the prairie landscape and the American Southwest. His landscape images are in several private and corporate collections in Canada, USA, Japan, Europe and Scandinavia.

His sport photographs have been published in national and international magazines. Since 1995, Roy has concentrated on his "Creative Photography" in b/w and color using medium and large format cameras.

I am forever looking for that special instant when all the elements come into focus. The moment of creative truth when one is in unique harmony with nature. I believe that there is a spiritual connection between the photographer, nature and one's creative spirit.

This connection permits me to focus my inner self to see, interpret, balance and capture that distinct moment in time. Photography is the expression and passion of one's artistic endeavors using light and shadows. I use time and space to influence my approach to light and shadow.

Ruth Bernhard (1905-2006) in 1952 best captured the allure of photography when she stated, "My quest, through the magic of light and shadows, is to isolate, to simplify, and to give emphases to form with the greatest clarity".

I think about the artistic desire of the inner self, the soul of creativity and how it relates to the passion of my chosen craft. I have been on a long journey refining my visual vocabulary to better share with the viewer my feeling and statement on life. It is a journey of discovery of one's inner self.
